Assimilation Lucky 777 is an ongoing body of work that centers on creating leather rawhide forms that serve as comforting yet complicated symbols rooted in ancestral techniques and imagery. These pieces are a reflection on generational trauma, considering the traditions passed down to future generations as forms of resilience and resistance. The imagery highlights the complex process of assimilation and how identity is preserved or transformed under external pressures.Despite the heavy themes, these lamps also represent hope—a small light, a good luck charm, a warm glow. Through these works, we examine what is lost and what is retained in this process.
